This one is about someone who fascinates me and why. It took so long because I didn't know who to choose. I'm fascinated by one of my students. Let's call him Timmy. Timmy is one of my Turkish students who has a speech issue. At first I thought he didn't speak English but after getting to know him and learning to decode his words, I understand that he speaks English, he just has a speech delay. Anywho, this kid ran out of my room multiple times a day for the whole first week of school. What I didn't understand was that when I would go get him and reprimand him for that he would burst into tears. I would think like dude you ran out of the room, why are you hysterically crying? We got past that aspect and I learned that he had no concept of school. At home when you gotta pee, you just go. That's what he was doing. So once we got past that hurdle, things were fine. He became affectionate and he really cares about getting in trouble. When I reprimand him, he freaks out and the thing is, I KNOW he doesn't get in trouble at home. I'm fascinated by the fact that he's so affected by getting in trouble. He's intrinsically motivated to behave. He still has his moments but not nearly as much as I would've expected from a kid with a home life like his.
